Creating a multimedia soil map for Vancouver

Dr Maja Krzic works to develop tools for student engagement to complement traditional lecture-based learning. The development of Multimedia Soil Map of Vancouver (MSM) is an educational tool for gathering knowledge of local soils to learn more about Vancouver’s environment and participate in the ever-growing urban agriculture and forestry movement that this city boasts.

The MSM tool provides unique learning opportunities to UBC students on the topics of soil formation, urban forestry and agriculture, and ecological processes within an urban setting. The MSM tool was designed by a team of soil scientists, instructional designers, graduate students, and multimedia specialists with the intention of appealing to multiple learning styles and providing greater access to valuable information on land use opportunities within the city of Vancouver.
